Barcelona has officially announced the signing of 18-year old forward Vitor roque from Spanish club Athletico for an undisclosed fee. The deal is believed to be around €40m ($44m) and Roque has signed a contract with the club until the summer of 2030-31. He'll join up with his new team-mates next summer.
Roque has a release clause worth an eye-watering €500m, so it's clear how valuable he is.In addition to Roque, Barcelona have also signed Ilkay Gundogan and Andrzej Martinez on a free transfer after the expiration of their respective contracts with Manchester City, and Athletic Club respectively, this summer.
Barcelona wanted to find a replacement and successor to Robert Lewandowski, who is 35 years old. Roque was their first choice, and the talks, led by Deco, went quickly.
Roque impressed Barcelona during his time at Athletico and with the Brazil youth sides. He was a key player in the club’s run to the final last season and he recently made his debut for the senior national team. Roque has made 65 appearances for the club, scoring 22 goals, six of which have come in the last six matches. He has also scored seven goals in the current season of Brasil’s top flight.
President of Barcelona, Joan Laporta, described Roque as “a one-of-a-kind and powerful player who is very good at finishing with both feet inside the box.” Laporta compared Roque to Ronaldo, another Brazilian legend who played for Barcelona. “Roque has a lot of potential and he has a unique style.”
With the signing of Vitor Roque, Barcelona aims to strengthen their squad with a talented young player who has the potential to make a significant impact in the future.
